This Surly Long Haul Trucker turned into one tough bike. Kevin, a local and friend, in the past had done Touring. Finding that it wasn’t for him, he wanted to turn his Long Haul Trucker into a “bombproof” city bike. We accepted the offer to turn his Surly into one mean machine meant to take on the streets of Richmond. We put a 26″ inch wheelset on the bike strong enough to meet those tough patches of road no problem. On top of those wheels, we put Schwable Tires; tough enough to soak up those potholes and continue to spin true. For comfort, we installed FSA Compact Bars and the timeless quality of a Brooks Saddle. Lastly, we put a SRAM Apex 2/10 drive train, with broad range gearing. Giving Kevin’s Surly the same efficiency of a triple drive train, but the simplicity and ease of a double drive train.
