The Torker Interurban

The Torker Interurban might actually be the perfect city bike for under $600.

It combines some of the best attributes of road and hybrid bikes into an affordable package that is less than half what traditional road racing bikes start at in price.   The frame is robust cromoly steel which may not be like those featherweight carbon frames in Tour De France but it’s certainly no tank either.  Carrying this bike up a flight of stairs into a Fan apartment is no chore at all.

The components are all chosen to be affordable yet functional.  Shimano brake/shift levers give the convenience of being able to operate the gears and brakes from both hand positions on the handlebars.  ”Dual pivot” brakes combined with a machined braking surface on the wheels yields confident stopping in both wet and dry conditions.

Integrated braking and shifting right in your hands.

What I like best about this bike though is that it’s not limited to skinny racing style tires like most road bikes are.  The Interurban’s frame has room the kind of robust, puncture-resistant tires that make sense for the urban landscape.

Rack and fender mounts.

Not only does it have room for fatter tires but it also comes with all the needed mounts on the frame to add full coverage fenders and even a cargo rack.  With a few upgrades this bike is 100% ready to tackle a car-free daily routine.
