Sure we’re in the business of selling new bikes… but that does not mean that there might not be a perfectly good used machine out there just waiting for you to find and refurbish.

Hunter’s Trek is a great example of a almost discarded old bike that has been given new life and ridden almost daily. The Trek frame may have been made in the 70′s but it’s tough to kill a strong lugged steel frame. Since getting his hands on this bike Hunter has been “upgrading” it with mostly discarded parts. Cast off parts from other people’s upgrades, craigslist finds, and a couple new bits and pieces are all combined to create a dirt cheap but perfectly functional city bike.

Can a used 10 speed derailleur and cassette work on a 7 speed hub with old friction shifters? Apparently the answer is “yes”. A seat post from 2005 holds a saddle from the 80′s. New mustache bars are attached to an older Cinelli stem and turn the fork with the original headset.

There is something beautiful about a mish mash of parts coming together to make something so useful like this.
